clipart from JW Illustrations

The Unit Printables are

  • Baby Animal Match Up- Match the baby animal to the mommy
  • 3 Part Puzzles
  • Flashcards with traceable words
  • Farm Songs- Old MacDonald Had a Farm, BINGO
  • and 2 Crafts:
  1. Make a Farm Scene- Print the farm scene pages, Cut them out. Then on a Blue construction paper glue some green grass( green construction paper) to the bottom. Then have the child glue the pieces of their farm on.
  2. Pig in the Mud- Print the Pig on card stock so it will be sturdy. Then allow your child to paint with brown paint to create mud on the pig. You could also allow them to paint with chocolate pudding for fun!

Ideas for Teaching about the Farm
  • Talk with your child about the animals and ask them what they think the habitat for that animal would look like. This would be a great drawing/ art activity as you could supply them with drawing paper and crayons to draw the animals habitat as you showed them the Flash cards above in the Unit.
  • Discuss the Farmers role on the farm. That he feeds the animals. And he has a garden that he takes care of. Supply them with a small cup and a little potting soil and some seeds. Allow them to be the farmer and plant their own small garden. Remind them that they need to water it and make sure its in the sun on a daily basis as needed. And you could even chart the growth if you have older children.
  • Make a Sensory bin. Include items like Easter Grass Filler, Corn Kernels, Beans, Oats, Plastic Farm Animals, Easter Eggs, Include a small shovel and bucket for pretending to scoop feed.

Snack Time Ideas

  • Make Pigs in a Blanket
  • Haystack Cookies: You'll need graham crackers, Chocolate Squares( Hershey's candy bar or something similar), marshmallows, and chow mein noodles. Let child place a Graham Cracker at the bottom then chocolate square, marshmallow and top with chow mein noodles. Microwave for about 16 seconds. Then Enjoy!
Other Items to incorporate in the Unit

Enjoy and Have fun learning about the Farm!

    Our School Week 1/31-2/4

Here is our Week in Review for Preschool and Tot School!

    Preschool
Austin had a full week of school from RRSP curriculum to 2 Unit Studies and some fun Valentine Activities!

We started each day with calendar/circle time and also discussed our tray of things that start with P
We had pigs, police car, pineapple felt food, pizza, pancakes, planes, phones, penguins, plates and the color purple. This was my first time putting a tray like this together but the boys really enjoyed picking our items and saying the names and then discussing that they start with P
( Letter P , Number 17, Sight Word- to, Color Pink, Circle)
This week he cut out his own vocab words not using the helper scissors with the spring in them! ( This is a huge accomplishment for him)

    Letter P Activities
He colored a Letter P is for Penguins that I made
He worked on Counting with Penguins that I made
He did a color by number Penguin from Making Learning Fun

we focused on our flash cards and the traffic signal and what is is for.

we did the following states Alabama, Alaska, Arizona and Arkansas.
We started each State with finding it on the map
Then we did our Passport with the state license plate, state flag, and bird/flower.
We then read the flap book we have about each state.
And he finished each part of the Unit with coloring a page about the State

    Valentines Activities
He played in our Sensory Bin
He worked on several activities from Musings of Me Valentine's unit

    Tot School

     (Dylan is 32 months)
Dylan focuses on the Letter P, Colors, Counting 1- 10, Size Sorting, Lacing, Shapes,
Any of the Penguin stuff in his school was made by me and I will be posting it this week sometime

He had to match the penguins in this activity.

He worked on naming all the Shapes in his puzzle.

He colored a P is for Penguin worksheet

He sorted the Penguins by Size

He worked on our Valentines Tot Kit with our Lacing Birds

He worked on a Penguin Puzzle

And he enjoyed our Sensory bin

Now for some pics from the week of both the boys.

We had close to 12 inches of snow this past week so we spent alot of our school time outside playing in it!

The boys built a snowman with Daddy. Mommy created the face with what things I could come up with, Black Pom Poms for the eyes, a mini carrot for the nose, and a red pipe cleaner for the mouth! Daddy made the arms with the boys help! (Dylan wouldn't go near the snowman once he was made so no pic for him with the snowman)

We had a great week even in the snow storm!

    Unit Study: Police

The month of February we are also studying Policeman and how they can help us.

I created a few printables to go with our Unit ( i did not create a lesson plan as I will be stretching the activities for the whole month and we will repeat some of the activities)

    Whats in the Unit:
    • Flashcards
    • My information- We will use this to talk about first/last name, emergency numbers, parents names, address and our phone number. This way in case of an emergency they will know what to do!
    • Color by number Traffic light- We will use this to discuss what the traffic light is for.
    • Fingerprint Numbers- Using a stamp pad have your little one stamp the appropriate amount of finger prints in each box.
    • Whistle Patterns- Complete the Patterns

    Other activities:
    • Make a Police Badge- Use cardboard and cut out the shape badge you want. wrap tin foil around the badge and use a paint brush to smooth out and creases. Then u can decorate it the way you want.
    • Talk about Strangers and what to do if a Stranger approaches the child.
    • Take a field trip to a Police Station

    Role Play:
    • Dress in badge, hat, blue shirt, make a stop sign to use during this time and play police man.

    Game to Play:
    • Police Officer Says- Played just like "Simon Says" except you say "Police Officer Says."

    Songs & Fingerplay:

    *I Am A Policeman*
(sung to: I'm A Little Teapot)
I am a policeman, with my star.
I help people near and far.
If you have a problem, call on me.
    And I will be there, 1, 2, 3

     *Police Officers Fingerplay*
Five police officers standing by a door-------
One became a traffic cop; then there were four.
Four police officers watching over me----
one took home a lost boy, and then there were three.
Three police officers dressed all in blue----
One stopped a speeding car, and then there were two.
Two police officers---how fast they run!
One caught a bad man, and then there was one.
One police officer saw smoke faraway.
He called the firehouse, and the fire person saved the day.

    * Police Officer*
Police officers are helpers wherever they may stand.
(Stand with feet apart, hands on hips.)
They tell us when to stop and go by holding up their hands.
(Signal stop by holding up hand and go by pointing index finger.)

If you use the Unit Study please leave a link in the comments. I'd love to see it in use!

Towards the end of February I will have the Mailman Unit Study up.

    50 States Social Study Unit

I've been working on this Unit for a while now and finally have it together! Starting in February Austin will be doing 50 States in alphabetical order for about 12 weeks (since we do school 4 times a week).  I plan to do one to 2 a day depending on how things go. We will be doing a coloring page each day, our passport, lift the flap in our book for that state of the day, color the state on our map, and locate the state on our big U.S map, and we will also be watching the Power Points from the Members Only Area over at 1+1+1=1(if you arent a member you might want to consider joining) . I have made my own passport and am sharing it with you all plus all the info you will need to do what we are doing!

Passport Pages- click image to download

Once printed  cut the pages out and staple along the left edge.

What you will need for the passport:
The State Flags. License, Birds and Flowers will be glued in the passport per day.

Other things we will be using each day

This is the book we will be using it his a flap with the states info under it as you can see in the pictures. I got this at Dollar Tree.

This  is the map where he will locate the state each day as well. I bought this at Dollar Tree as well.

Other things you may want to get for fun to go with the Unit
