Typesy | Typing Program For Homeschoolers

Typing is one of those things that everyone needs to know with how technology has advanced over the past several years. I knew I wanted my boys to have the opportunity to learn proper typing. So when Typesy contacted me to review their program, I couldn't turn it down. 

Typesy is a Homeschool Typing program. 

It includes a comprehensive curriculum based on the science of muscle memory and structure repetition.  

As the parent, you have complete control in the admin panel of your child's learning, assignments, and assessments. The lessons are customized to their skill level. It slowly progresses through the current skill they are working on giving them time to master each section. 

During the course lessons there are step-by-step video teachings, effective exercises, and fun games.

My boys really enjoyed completing their course for the day and then following it up with the fun games that they offer. The games include typing letters and words to move the characters. 

My boys have always watched as I am able to type without looking at the keyboard and have wanted to be able to do the same. I was taught in high school to type and had always been looking for something similar to how I was taught. Typesy is very similar and I see them already learning how to type without looking. It can only get better as they continue to use it.

Typesy is used by top schools nationwide. 

I found it to be super easy to set up and enjoyed using the lessons myself. 

I highly recommend it for children to use as a homeschool typing curriculum.

Even parents will enjoy it! 

Building Blocks of Science Book 5 Review

I was sent the Building Blocks of Science Book 5 from Timberdoodle to try out and we love it!!

The Building Blocks of Science Book 5 Book set comes with a Textbooks, Lab Book, and Teachers Manual.

The Student Textbooks contains everything the students will be learning as well as color images that go along with the lesson. It is very thorough and I felt like my son was actually learning the contents. 

I feel that the images really helped with keeping the lesson interesting.

The Lab Notebook is what has the experiments and where they fill in the information that they learned about in the experiment. 

The Teachers Manual was really a nice add on to the set. It made me feel confident in teaching the lessons and was very open and go. I feel that is so important!

It provides a list of all the materials needed for the experiments.This makes it so easy to gather everything before hand!

Overall we really enjoy this curriculum and I could see us using it in the future. I like that it was hands on and brings in so much information. My son enjoyed the experiments and getting to use a lab notebook as he did them. I highly recommend this set!!

Color Fold Game

I was sent the Color Fold Game from Timberdoodle to try out and we love it!! 

It's a one player strategic game that requires a lot of thinking as you play. 

The game comes with a double sided cloth

and 40 playing cards that are for different levels.

Levels include: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Expert.

My 10 year old son enjoyed playing!

At first it was challenging to get down for him but the more he played the easier it got.

 The game is recommended for ages 8 and up and is included in the Timberdoodle 11th grade curriculum kit. 

The cards are double sided. The front shows the pattern you are supposed to figure out by folding the cloth. 

The back shows the solution.

Color Fold will be in our homeschool Friday fun day basket!! I love having one player activities that my kids can enjoy playing on their own!

Chibi Chip Starter Kit

We were sent the Chibi Chip Starter Kit from Timberdoodle.

My boys were so excited to receive this coding set and we got started right away.

This is how the kit arrives and everything that comes in it.

The kit includes everything you need except 3 AA batteries. 

The book is a nice binder that has step by step learning instructions on how to light up an LED, code a light to blink, add a switch, fade in and out, and debugging. My only complaint was that the binder rings could have been a little bigger as it was difficult to turn pages with out tearing them.

We worked as a group on the coding projects as both of my boys are interested in coding. The Chibi Chip Starter Kit is part of the Timberdoodle 7th Grade Curriculum Kit

The first activity is creating a circuit and lighting an LED light. We laid down the copper tape as the books says and added the Chibi Chip Clip to the page and it lit up! The boys thought it was so neat! They were very amazed at how it worked. 

We moved on in the first section of the book and it showed us how we could add two more lights to the previous section and that all three would light up. So of course we had to try it out!

The last part of the first section included how to do turns and to create circuits with turns. They worked together and added lights all along the path. The lights lit just as they should and the boys again we so excited!

 

My favorite part of this kit was that not only was it hands on, but it was also very informative with how each aspect worked. They learned about electricity and circuits. We will be continuing through this kit over the school year and I can't wait to see how much more they learn.

Dr. Bonyfide Review

Long time no post! I am back after several computer issues and with a brand new review!! 

I was given the option to do a review on the Dr. Bonyfide set from Timberdoodle! 

When I say these books are amazing, I truly mean it! There is 4 books in the set and they are all based on the skeletal system. 

Here is what the books cover

Book 1- Hands, Arm, and Shoulder

Book 2- Foot, Leg, and Pelvis

Book 3- Rib Cage and Spine

Book 4- Head, Face, and Neck

My 4th grader was just as excited about them as I was when they came in the mail! 

He got started with them right away. 

What he liked about the books was the fun cartoons in them. I don't think he realized he was learning as he went through the first book.

 Another bonus is they can use these books independently!

The book even showed some sign language which he has now asked to learn more in depth! 

Another fun aspect he enjoyed were the fun glasses that he could see the secret words and activities in when a page had them. 

Here's an example of a page they have to use the glasses on to see the answer in the bone. 

 

The Dr. Bonyfide book set is amazing and fun! We plan to continue through the rest of the books over the next year and learn all about the bones in our bodies!

Beautiful Coloring Review

I teamed up with Timberdoodle and was sent the Beautiful Coloring book to review. It is part of their 4th Grade curriculum kit. 

My boys, 4th grade and 6th grade, were both very interested in checking this book out. 

The Beautiful Coloring book covers everything from the color wheel, primary colors, complimentary colors, and different coloring techniques. 

The book is divided into color sections. Yellow is a primary color. In the yellow section it shows how to use different color patterns to color different objects. Each section has a page with 4 boxes on it with 2 showing how to do it and 2 for the child to try that technique. Then the page right next to it has a object that has been started with that technique and blank spaces for them to finish. 

In the Green section it talks about complimentary colors. Red and Green compliment each other when they are besides one another. The page is just like the yellow one above with 4 boxes that have 2 as an example and 2 empty for the child to try it out. Then on the next page they can try out their techniques and also use the complimentary colors together. 

Here is an example of technique the books shows. Some are easy and some are a little more complex. Below shows how they used dots and lines to create the turtle. It again shows the 4 boxes with 2 examples and 2 empty for the child to test it out. Then they take what they just practiced and put it to use in the picture of the turtle. 

They are also given other pages in the same section for the techniques to try out. The page below of the limes is to be done in the technique above that they learned from the turtle. It gives them plenty of practice and fun ways to use what they are learning!

Here is my son testing the book out and really enjoying different techniques and ways to use complimentary colors.

Here he is using the different techniques and colors by using the examples shown in the boxes above on the page. 

 He really enjoyed learning how different colors would compliment each other and create a picture that popped.

We are so thankful that Timberdoodle sent us the Beautiful Coloring book and definitely recommend it as a great add on to an Art curriculum.
