Its hard to believe that December is here already! Today is the first day of my Countdown to Christmas. On the first snowman it says Make an Ornament. So my boys and I made Salt Dough Ornaments.
What you will need for the Salt Dough:
- 4 cups flour
- 1 cup salt
- 1 1/2 cup water ( we needed a little extra, just add little bits at time if u find it too dry)
Add 1/2 a cup of water and mix for a few minutes
Gradually add the rest of the water
Form dough into a ball
Work any dry flour or salt left at the bottom into the ball
Knead dough for 5 minutes
Use cookie cutters to shape dough
Poke a hole about half an inch into the ornament
Place on a foil cover cookie sheet
Bake at 300 degree F until hard ( about 5 minutes for 1 to 2 inch pieces)
When they have cooled paint with acrylic paint
Let Dry and Add a String and embellish any way you like!

The Ornaments while they were drying
Austin wanted me to add some glitter to his after I put the string on so we embellished it a bit!
If you started the Countdown to Christmas and made an ornament link up so we can all see!
See You tomorrow for Day 2!
They turned out great!! Kerri
ReplyDeleteI love the impressions you put in them. We made salt ornaments last year, but now I might have to try again.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteKatie- All I did was use a biscuit cutter to get the circle and then took some of my smaller cookie cutters and just barely pushed down on them to make the impressions. I couldn't find my Christmas cookie cutters so i made this work!
